Kim has taught physical education at Alamance Elementary School in Greensboro,
North Carolina for 13 years and received a PFA grant in the fall of 2000.
Kim’s approach to teaching the “whole child” has created
a love of physical activity and a host of life skills that encompasses
respect, caring, determination, responsibility, integrity, giving, courage
and self discipline. Her class motto is “Build each other up, don’t
tear each other down”. Her principal, Mary Foley, writes to us;
“Mrs. Berg’s emphasis on identifying behaviors that build
up, rather than tear down, and her clear expectations for performance,
regardless of gender, results in every student willingly participating
and meeting with success.” Kim possesses the enthusiasm and energy
that makes a real difference. She is model teacher in every sense of the

2010 Update
Kim Berg, All Star Teacher 2002
My name is Kim Berg and have been teaching Physical Education for 21 years at
Alamance Elementary School in Greensboro, NC. I received PFA in 2001. My favorite
parts of the Project Fit America program are PACER, Smile Mile, Chart and Challenge,
cup lessons and Station Stars. My school holds many PFA records including flexed
arm-hang, PACER, and the pole climb challenge. One accomplishment that I have
achieved since receiving PFA was being named Guilford County Schools Elementary
Teacher of the Year. I was up against 99 classroom teachers, EC teachers, art
teachers and music teachers. To have received this honor as a Physical Education
teacher was incredible. I felt like PFA was instrumental in the decision of
the judges.
My students love the program and constantly
feel challenged individually no matter what activity we are doing.
Another amazing thing that has happened was becoming a PFA trainer.
I have traveled across America working with amazing P.E. teachers
and their students teaching them about Project Fit. What an amazing
opportunity Project Fit has given me. When I do these in-services,
I learn some of their best practices and get to bring them back to
my students. Some of my students favorite activities have been ones
that I learned from these P.E. teachers. Thank you Project Fit America
for helping me to develop the program I have today!
