2010 Update
Scott Bauer: All-Star Teacher 2008
It’s been business as usual since
I won the 2008 All-Star award. I just finished my 4th year as elementary
physical education instructor at Homer-Center. It seems like yesterday
that I was hired and here I am getting ready to start my 5th year…unbelievable!!
Since 2008 my wife and I welcomed our second child, a girl, into
our house. My son is now 4 and my daughter is 2, they grow fast.
Here are a few things that I have accomplished and have going on
in my life.
In the summer of 2009, I graduated from
Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Master’s degree in
Athletic Administration. I really enjoyed the challenge of grad school,
but at times I found it difficult to juggle teaching, class, coaching,
homework and family life. However, with help from my loving wife
I was able to conquer this monumental task and obtain my degree.
I keep saying I’m done with school, but in the back of my mind
I can see myself going back and getting another degree. I may go
back and get my principal papers someday…we’ll see!!
I also am the head coach of Homer-Center’s
varsity baseball team. This is my third year as head coach and 11th
as a varsity baseball coach. I enjoy every moment of coaching and
spending time with my guys. Homer-Center has a strong baseball heritage
and I am just trying to carry on the proud tradition to the best
of my ability. In three years we have won our conference one time
and reached the District finals 3 years in a row, winning the District
6 Championship two times. We also qualified for the Pennsylvania
State baseball tournament 3 years in a row as well. Again, I wouldn’t
be able to coach without an understanding wife who holds down the
fort while I’m away at practice and games.
I try to stay active as much as possible.
I have a lot of hobbies and interests to keep me busy and out of
trouble. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a diehard Steelers,
Penguins and Pitt fan! Born and raised in Pittsburgh… it’s
kind of a birth right. This past summer I started jogging and really
have taken a liking to it. I like it so much that I have signed up
to run a few 5k’s in the area and I am even thinking of running
the Pittsburgh’s Half Marathon next May. I also play ice hockey
every Sunday in the winter. I am very passionate about hockey and
enjoy every minute on the ice. In the warmer months I love to golf
with my friends, but my favorite past time is spending quality time
with my wife and kids. My kids are very active and I enjoy being
Dad every chance I get.
I feel that I am very lucky for my current
situation at Homer-Center elementary. Not only was I hired by a great
school district, but our school was awarded the PFA grant just a
few months prior to me being hired. So I came into a great situation
and was able to implement Project Fit America from day 1. Project
Fit America is easy to use, implement and best of all the kids love
every minute of it. I am always on their website looking for new
ideas. I am forever indebted to Project Fit America for what they
have done for my career and look forward to working with them for
many years to come.
