Cindy Clodfelter's Teaching Philosophy
My
personal philosophy of teaching health and physical
education in the world today is to help create
the future of each and every student in my classroom.
I strive to mold the lives of the most precious
commodity that our world has to offer, our youth.
I want to affect the lives of my students in ways
that are immeasurable. I believe that all
my students are unique individuals and it is my
desire to help my students reach their fullest
potential by creating opportunities that are meaningful
and relevant to their lives and interests. I
want to teach my curriculum around student interests
that foster intrinsic motivation and stimulate
a passion to learn. I want my students to
learn to be Team Friendly for
a lifetime.
At the age of 10, I began playing school using
my sister, brother, and friends as my students
mimicking the strategies of my own teachers. At
age 15, I was given the opportunity to coach a
little league girl’s basketball team in my
community. I played sports and observed many
successful coaching techniques from the role models
in my life. It was then that I realized if God
gave me 86,400 seconds in a day-I wanted to spend
that time with kids playing. For me, my teaching
provides me with the opportunity for continual
learning and growth.
During the summer of 2007, I was installing my
Project Fit equipment while saying goodbye to my
sister forever (a battle with cancer). As
I began to look at her life - I was truly amazed
at the way she touched so many lives during her
lifetime. I then realized how easy that was to
do. The only resource I needed was my heart
to build relationships and make a difference. One
of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love
for learning in my students, as well as to share
my own passion of learning with them. I encourage
my students to realize that health and physical
education is the most important class they will
ever take in school as it challenges the mind and
body in different ways.
Much
of the learning is centered on growth, development,
goals, values and a variety of life-long skills. I
want to inspire my students to learn, participate
and appreciate physical education. Games
and activities are carefully selected to build
good character skills, positive relationships,
as well as make connections in other core curricula
areas. Teaching has often been recognized
by many as the most challenging, yet rewarding
careers. I feel that I have a unique and
dynamic responsibility to my community. Because
of this challenge, I believe it is my purpose in
life to teach and extend my responsibilities beyond
the classroom.
As a teacher, I have had the good fortune to
have taught for 30 years in Randolph
County Schools, both at the high
school level and now currently in middle school. I
have spent my entire career coaching, as well as
dedicating my efforts to other parts of the school
vision. In 2003, I became a Nationally
Board Certified Teacher which has
impacted my love for my job. I am currently
coaching volleyball, and serve as Athletic Director
for our athletic program. My professional duties
also include coordinator for Box tops
for Education (funding for PE equipment), GOFAR,
and Hoops for Heart. I
serve as a mentor, member of the county and school Health
Advisory Committee, Emergency Response Team, PTSA
school representative, Superintendent Advisory
Committee, as well as serve as a trainer for Blue
Cross/Blue Shield Energizer program. In
2003-2004, 2008-2009- I was a finalist for Teacher
of the Year in our county, as well
as receiving the Newbridge Teacher
of the year Award in 2009.
