Quitman Lower Elementary Joins Project Fit America

Some area students are learning to move their bodies and eat healthier, in an attempt to battle the state's obesity problem.
Quitman Lower Elementary cut the ribbon Friday on a new fitness area they will be using as they take part in Project Fit America.
That project is a nationwide effort to get kids more fit. It's being done in several schools in our area.

School officials in Quitman say they hope the project will help their kids have healthier lifestyles.

"As America, we have got to do something to get these kids to get committed to getting in shape, instead of playing video games," said Mike Williams, school board member. "We want to get them to try to change their mindset and be more excited about exercise and and activities."
